STAND TALL ALL STARS MEET THE KINGS
The Stand Tall All Stars were treated to an ‘out of reach’ opportunity by the Sydney Kings today in preparation for their participation in the Newington Classic. The team has been in full training mode and the Sydney Kings invited the All Stars to come and watch their training session on today. The All Stars team is made up of youth aged from 13 to 17 from diverse cultural backgrounds including – Nigerian/Maltese, Indian, Syrian, Burmese, Vietnamese/Chinese, Maori, Sierra Leone, and Sudanese. They have taken to the court to prepare for the upcoming tournament with most of the players not having met each other before but having already formed a bond which is becoming stronger every day both on and off the court with the consistent emphasis on inclusiveness, team attitude and mutual respect the team.
It was amazing way to build the team cohesiveness and a privilege for the youth, many of which had never even seen a game before, let alone experienced the behind the scenes training of a professional basketball team. The Kings went out of their way to make it a special experience with the team getting to hear from the likes of the Legend and Sydney Kings Coach Andrew Gaze and former NBA player Josh Powell.
Josh Powell was able to share some great insights into how to succeed both on and off the court sharing some of the stories from his own experience. The team were truly inspired through the experience to not only achieve in basketball but in their own lives.
A big thanks to the Sydney Kings and everyone at the club that made the visit possible and even made some time for a game of knockout with some players and the All Stars. With some big games of their own coming up make sure you show your support for the Sydney Kings and get your tickets to the upcoming games at www.sydneykings.com We will be there for sure.
The Newington Classic is to be played on the 24th and 25th January so keep your eyes out for the Stand Tall All Stars as they make the most of the opportunity.
