Hoops with Indigenous Students From Gawura School

There was a lot of excitement in the gym at St. Andrews Cathedral College as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from Gawura School and St Andrews Cathedral College played basketball and learned new skills through the Charity Bounce Hoops for Harmony program.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from Gawura and St. Andrews spent the afternoon learning key life lessons through an interactive basketball program and learned how the principles, skills and training learned on a basketball court the program focuses on teamwork, promoting inclusiveness, and valuing diversity. Former Harlem Globetrotter Tracy Williams inspired the students to dream of big goals in life and shared some practical tips on how to work toward those goals.

Gawura School is a Kindergarten to Year 6 day school for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in Sydney. The school is connected to St. Andrews Cathedral School and graduates of Gawura are awarded scholarships to finish their secondary education at St. Andrews. Charity Bounce was joined by the senior students of the First Basketball Team of St Andrew’s Cathedral School who helped encourage and coach the students in their basketball skills throughout the afternoon.
