NBL LEGENDS JOIN CHARITY BOUNCE FOR HANDS ON OUTREACH IN REDFERN

In the two months since Charity Bounce launched it has touched the lives of nearly 1000 disadvantaged and Indigenous youth – from Western and inner Sydney and even interstate to Alice Springs.

Yesterday the strengths based Stand Tall program was run by Charity Bounce at the NCIE Redfern indoor basketball courts. With the support of local community groups including Tribal Warrior, Youth off the Streets Key College, WEAVE and NCIE, young people were empowered and engaged by basketball legends and NBL Hall of Famers Cal Bruton and Steve Carfino with a 2 hour basketball and leadership program, aimed at giving Indigenous and culturally diverse young people positive life messages as well as emphasising the importance of school attendance, education and job pathways, plus health and well-being.

“We see the huge potential to bring positive change to some of the youth in this area.  We are always looking to inspire young people with positive role models and activities via food and basketball to reach out to the community,” said Cain Slater, the Charity Bounce Program Manager.

Two young Indigenous chefs from well noted restaurant The Rockpool Group joined Charity Bounce on the day and stood as role models for others having found a pathway to employment by Cain three years ago.

“It is terrific to have youth come to support us today who are achieving in their respective fields – two Aboriginal young people who come from Western Sydney and now work in one of Sydney’s leading restaurants. It is brilliant to see these young people willing to inspire the next generation of youth in the workplace,” said Cain.

Charity Bounce has attracted high profile partners in chef Sean Connolly, the Sydney Kings, Sydney Uni Flames, Jr NBA, NBL Hall of Famer and renowned coach Cal Bruton and more recently Sydney Kings basketball legend Steve Carfino.

Last week Charity Bounce was also invited by FIBA to participate in leadership training to talented basketballers from the South Pacific at the FIBA Pacific Leaders Camp on the Gold Coast. Charity Bounce is committed to making a difference through the delivery of effective basketball related social programs and establishing great partners to deliver the highest quality of programs possible.
