Former NBL Coach to train Indigenous Coaches in Alice Springs

Internationally recognised coach Rob Beveridge is heading to Alice Springs next week, along with Adelaide 36ers player Kevin White to train Indigenous Coaches as part of a new initiative for the Stand Tall Central Australia programs. Rob Beveridge is a former NBL Championship Head Coach and has a long list of coaching achievements including:

  • Australian Assistant Coach (2000-2006)
  • U20 World Championship Head Coach(2003)
  • NBL Head Coach (2007-2019)
  • NBL Championship (2010)
  • NBL Grand Finals (2010, 2012, 2013, 2017)
  • Shanghai Sharks Head Coach
  • Scotland Head Coach (2018)

The new initiative will involve some hands on coaching experience for some coaches from Central Australia and Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) lands. The coaches will have some hands on coaching opportunities at a range of community programs led by Rob Beveridge and Kevin White before having interactive coaching development sessions by Rob Beveridge to close out the weeks programs.

The Stand Tall Coaching initiative aims to train up local coaches from remote communities and equip them to deliver programs in their own communities. The Stand Tall initiative consists of strength based basketball programs for young people, to develop life and leadership skills, using basketball as a means of engagement and providing an impacting experience that inspires participants to set goals and be motivated about their own future.

The coaches will be engaged in their own communities and connect the Bounce Courts Innovation projects with on the ground programs to utilise the courts that have been built in remote communities fro education and employment focussed outcomes. We are excited to launch the initiative  and look forward to some great outcomes for coaches and participants in Alice Springs and surrounding communities next week.

Kevin White has delivered programs with the Mutijulu community since 2017.
