On Wednesday night, Charity Bounce brought their innovative programs Stand Tall and Eat Strong, Play Strong to Mt Druitt with the help of celebrity chef Sean Connolly, NBL legend Cal Bruton, Jeromie Hill from the Sydney Kings, and former NBA and NBL Executive Bret Mactavish.

Aimed at empowering young people through the promotion of healthy lifestyle and positive education and employment pathways. The event saw more than 40 local kids come together at Emerton Leisure Centre for an evening of basketball, interactive cooking demonstrations, and Q&A sessions about life and leadership.

Cal Bruton, Jeromie Hill,  and Bret Mactavish conducted a basketball clinic, sharing pro basketball tips as well as personal life experiences. Local community leaders were also in attendance, meeting and greeting the young people and giving their own insights into the importance of making positive decisions.

Sean Connolly shared his talents and passion for food with the kids, encouraging them to get inside the kitchen in their everyday routine and providing practical tips for a healthy diet – before plating up a meal for all attendees to enjoy.

Sean said, “Cooking with the local youth was fantastic – we had a lot of fun and it was great to see them so engaged in learning about healthy food and interacting with the players from the Sydney Kings.”

“It’s wonderful to be involved with a charity that enables me to use my skills and experience to directly teach young people about critical things like healthy eating and the value of education. The kids were all very enthusiastic and I hope they take away something from the event that they can apply in their everyday lives throughout the future.”

The night was hugely successful. We hope that the program inspired the young people to dream bigger about their own future, where they can feel empowered to chase their dreams and create opportunities they’re passionate about. We always aim to inspire positive change for young people and hope to see some of the participants become the next generation of top chefs and professional players here in Mt Druitt.
