Stand Tall All Stars work together for success

The Stand Tall All-Stars Men’s squad came together over the school holidays and showed how effort and dedication can lead to success if you work together as a team. With more than 12 different cultures represented Stand Tall Coach Josh Collier along with Coach Eban Hyams, a professional basketball played in India’s UBL, and Tracy Williams, a former Harlem Globetrotter, led the team from their formation in try-outs, through daily trainings and made their way to the final tournament where the team achieved an amazing result by making the semi finals of the Sydney School Shootout.

The Stand Tall All-Stars program is designed to provide access to ‘out of reach’ opportunities in the basketball world and to support players beyond the on-court competitions to achieve off the court outcomes related to education, employment, health & wellbeing, and professional basketball pathways.

This team, which was comprised of 14 young men representing 12 different cultures including African- American, Turkish, English, Filipino, Argentinian, Venezuelan, Singaporean, Indian, New Zealand (Maori), Sri Lankan, Macedonian, and Aboriginal, made a huge impression on the other schools at the Sydney School Shootout, with opposing coaches and referees commenting on both the talent and attitude of the Stand Tall All-Stars.

Throughout the two week program, the Stand Tall All-Stars had the opportunity to play warm up matches against St Augustine’s College and Moriah College, hosted by each of the schools basketball programs. The young men also had the opportunity to hear some transformational messages from former Harlem Globetrotter Tracy Williams and from special guests including strength and conditioning coach Nick Davidson of Rise Performance. Nick spoke to the team about the importance of taking care of your body and showed the players how to prepare their bodies for the tournament and how to reach their sporting, fitness, and health goals on and off the court.

Charity Bounce would like to give a big thanks to Phil Webster, the organiser of the Sydney Schools Shootout tournament, for his ongoing support of Charity Bounce’s programs, Brad Dalton (St Augustine’s College) and P.J. Lane (Moriah College), and to all the Charity Bounce coaches and mentors who invested in the young men throughout the program.

Also, a big thanks to Under Armour for the gear packs for the players. The players loved them.
