Sydney Kings Indigenous Round program
Charity Bounce had the opportunity to get involved in Sydney’s historic first Indigenous Round game, where both the Kings and Taipans wore Indigenous themed jerseys with the game day experience devoted to celebrating Indigenous culture. Our great friends from Nyewente in Alice Springs, where the Stand Tall Central Australian programs take place were able to be a part of the day hearing from Preston Campbell along with young men from the Clontarf Foundation before heading courtside to watch the warm ups before the game. A big thanks to the Sydney Kings for including us in the program along with a group of young women from our Stand Tall all Stars teams in Western Sydney, who all got to meet the players on court after the win.
With the likes of Anthony Mundine, Jamie Soward, Preston Campbell and the Kings’ first Head Coach in their history, two-sport star Claude Williams, looking on, the Kings team paid respect to Indigenous culture on the day.
For some of those from Alice Springs it was their first time in Sydney and their first time at a Sydney Kings game so it was a great opportunity to meet the team and be involved on the day. Wil Foster, a former development player with the Adelaide 36ers who is still using basketball to inspire positive change was able to catch up with Brad Newley after having played against him in Alice Springs.
We want to thank the Sydney Kings for including us on the day and it was exciting to be a part of their historic first Indigenous round and pay respect to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and cultures.
Charity Bounce is a not for profit organisation that exists to inspire positive change to overcome disadvantage for individuals and communities. With a focus on Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders and Culturally Diverse communities, including newly arrived refugees we aim to move people toward a more positive future through the development of sports, the arts, health, education and employment focused social programs. The programs are delivered in partnership with professional athletes to motivate change and inspire.
